Answers:    the hard drive to buy is a seagate 2.5 laptop drive. you can gaet that surrounded by 5400 rpm or 7200rpm. also for instructions for the upgrade go to http://www.cnettv.com/?tag=hd_ts#. later go to the tab that say how-to-videos when the window loads in that will be a list of video to the right. scroll down and click the upgrade ps3 hard drive.
The Hard Drive contained by a ps3 when bought is a SATA 2.5" Laptop Drive - replacing it with any other SATA 2.5" laptop drive would increase the space. A speed of 5400RPM on the drive also eliminate compatability issues (it will work with others, but the productive drive is 5400RPM, so its never bad to be too careful). Transferring notes on the original complicated drive is no probelm either - as long as you own a big enough USB drive or dont mind sticking them surrounded by a desktop pc and copying files over.
