Video hobby for a 13 yo boy?

I wanted to buy a topical video game for my friend's son for his birthday. He like sports games. His mom is buying him a Wii, so I thought I could buy a game for it. Any suggestions?

The most discernible choice would be Madden NFL '08. It's a great football game, and the Wii controlls produce it very interesting. If he's more of a soccer human being, go for Super Mario Strikers. It's Soccer, but near some pretty insane twists. Or if he prefers extreme sports, Snowboarding game SSX Blur should do the trick.
