Looking for a digital projector to use within a church?

I'm looking for a digital projector that is suitable to use contained by a large church passage that has a do bit of ambient light from massive stained glass window.
Am keen to know of any projectors that are currently anyone used in churches or sizeable buildings and what their users think of them. The church is prepared to spend up to in the order of AU$5000 but my research so far has shown that we can catch one with a 3000 lumen planet much cheaper than this. The church doesn't want to have to spend more money than compulsory so the cheaper the better.
Also, the church will be projecting onto a painted wall rather than a proper peak. Will this make a difference to the final result? Are they better stale buying a screen or drawing the wall with something approaching Screen Goo as well?

Answers:    Depending on ambient pallid you might or might not be able to use a projector and obtain a sufficiently bright picture. It also depends what you want to project. For example, powerpoint presentations with few colours are smaller amount demanding than video with subtle shadings.

In anything but a pretty dim room you can pretty much forget video (at least possible if you want anything more than a pretty washed out picture).

That said, you probably call for at least 3000 ANSI lumens, but short some better idea of room size, ambient pale, screen size and projection distance it's impossible to utter.

The link below is to a list of projectors for various size conference rooms ... something on this register is probably suitable.

As to cost, that will depend on resolution more than brightness.

As to a DIY painted screen I don't see any problem. I hold made two screens myself ... one painted and one next to blackout cloth. Both worked very in good health. The second link is to a DIY blind forum ... lot's of good suggestion. The 3rd link is to a firm that sell screen cloth surrounded by case you want to consider a DIY cloth peak (actually easier than painting ... at lowest possible at 8-10' sizes).

Hope this helps.
