Surround nouns Set up on TV?

I have a 52" tv, reverse projection big screen w/HD. I bought a latest surround system and hooked it up to TV. Surround sond works great but only while using DVD or iPod hook up...how do I get hold of the surround sound to work for local tv channel ?

Answers:    the source of what you are listening to have to be broadcast in surround nouns. if your reciever has a phantom surround mode this may also work. also you must enjoy the source of your local channels hooked up contained by such away that they are run through the reciever to play in surround.
I have an idea that it has to work through the dvd, and it will just work when the tv show is in ss.
