My unsullied HDTV is out of sync beside my surround nouns system. Any thoughts?

I just get a Toshiba HDTV and am trying to hook it up with my surround nouns system. I got an optical cable to connect the TV to the surround nouns but there is a 1 second snag between the picture and the audio when I do it that way.

When I connect it directly from my directv box to my surround nouns using the left/right RCA jacks, it's fine. I don't know if the issue is with my TV or near my reciever. Does anyone have a clue as to if this is usual or what I can do about it?

Answers:    The proper route to make the nouns is from the directv box to the receiver.

Chances are you are using analog cable to connect from the directv to go into your TV, but afterwards using an optical cable to go from the tv to the surround system... since this is the baggage, your TV is taking that second to convert analog to digital.

The optical out on your TV is if you were picking up a big def channel over the atmosphere on an HD attenna (uncommon but it's out there) and you wanted to distribute to your surround sound. Since you hold directv, you should run either component for video beside analog in for your nouns or HDMI and send the optical out of directv to your surround system.
More than promising it is a receiver setting. But since you neglected to provide any model number the answers will not be precise.
