Anyone have trouble getting nouns from their Yamaha rx-v461 amp?

You may own the wrong kind of digital cable. It's be awhile since I've dealt beside this but I tried to use a coaxial digital cable to connect the audio and it required an optical digital cable. It was a Yamaha, but not that model. That may be an answer.
I'm not sure if it be a coaxial cable that was wrong or the optical, I a moment ago remember I got the cheaper hotchpotch, and it was the more expensive choice of cables that be necessary to acquire the audio to work. I hope that helps.
