Hooking TV to surround nouns reciever ?

How do I connect my TV up to my reciever and have the audio shift to my reciever instead of going thruough my TV... I hooked up the red/white audio cables to my reciever from my TV, but zilch. I tried it with my DVD player, and the DVD surround nouns works. Basically, how do I transfer audio signals from my TV to reciever ? Thanks..

Answers:    You really just want to hook up your tv to a receiver if you dont own a cable box. If you do and this is also how you should hook up your dvd player you should use a digital coax or optical connection so you can find true digital surround sound. If you arent using a cable box and your cable nurture is running straight to the tv then you want to hook up the red and white wires to the audio output. You need to construct sure they say output and not input. Once you do that consequently you need to progress into the setup menu of the tv and under the nouns settings there should be an opportunity to turn on the audio jacks or you just call for to turn off the tv speakers and that will produce it. Also you want to set the audio to fixed if it will allow you if not turn the volume up give or take a few 3/4 of the way up on the tv and be off it there.
