Digital Optical Audio Cable - Do I run the little clear plastic things stale the extremity?

I just bought a digital audio optical cable... and it have these little plastic things covering the metal part, do I remove those back I put them in the slots?

Answers:    Yes! If you dont it wont fit and if you force it within you could break the wire or port.

I truly installed some, but the sound sometimes cut out until I removed the little plastic dust-cap from the metal tips.
