Hello "which" Toshiba HD-DVD player should I buy? : 1?
Anyways, So I am confuse because near are several different types of Toshiba HD-DVD players. There are A3, A30 and A35. I am looking for that supports 768P,1080i & 1080P, HDMI output, sound of 5.1 threw 7.1. Please agree to me know & thank you! :)
Answers: First, it's not just price. HD DVD players are adjectives 3rd generation players beside all the extras that BLu-Ray players are of late starting to get (e.g. PinP, on the train memory, LAN connections). No current Blu-Ray player conforms to the current BD Profile 1.1 (Blu-Ray standard) approved Oct 31, 2007!
Regarding the Toshiba players, here are the main differences. The A3 is 1080i output. The A30 and A35 are both 1080p output (and both adopt 1080p/24fps ... see below for relevence), but the video processor in the A35 is superior. The A30 and A35 also support Deepcolour while the A3 does not. Finally, the A35 have 5.1 analog outputs while the others do not. That said, if you don't want to pay $500 the A35 is probably sour the table, and your choice is really the A3 or A30.
If you have an HDTV near native 1080p support (some don't, they create 1080p via scale and/or deinterlacing) you MIGHT benefit from a 1080p player.
The fact is that at hand is extremely small difference between 1080i and 1080p. You MAY see a difference with fast motion on a large peak seen from the optimum viewing distance.
The connection below has a insinuation to an objective check where within viewers could not tell the difference between 1080p and 1080i, BUT could see a difference when 1080p/24 fps (native HD DVD and Blu-Ray) and 1080p/30fps (current norm) be fed to a HDTV displaying 1080p/120 fps. The hint is that you can benefit from an HDTV that accepts 1080p/24 fps (yours any does or doesn't. Depending on the case this is adjectives or irrelevent!) ... but that worrying about 1080i vs 1080p is a leftovers of time.
So -- bottom line -- unless you are prepared to spring for the A35 to get the best video processing (which you probably can benefit from) and Deepcolour and 5.1 analog support (which you may not need), or enjoy a HDTV that accepts 1080p/24fps (in which overnight case consider the A30), you might as well grasp the lowest priced model ... the A3.
The other advantage to the A3 is no concern what happens near the 'format war' you will have a pious upscaling DVD player that you didn't pay a fortune for ... and DVDs will be around for a long time to come.
Hope this help and doesn't just muddy the waters!
