Can i hook up a 500watt reciever to a 300watt subwoofer?

Im really very dumb founded when it comes to these things but im thinking that i cant because the reciver may be to much power? if im wrong please agree to me know!

Answers:    I assume you mean a powered sub and will hooking up via a LFE cable (looks only just like a RCA plug) to the beneficiary. If this is the case you will just be sending a signal to the sub, so a wattage match is surplus to requirements.

If you mean a unassuming set up (not common surrounded by home theater anymore) you may have to verbs about it.

I would be more confident if you provided model numbers to confirm the above analysis. Profile e-mail me beside the details.
as long as the ohms match and u use rms ratings not claimed ratings its possible beside adjustments to the gain
