Dont use a splitter. It wont work.
Look at the optical output on your devices even when they are just powered on. They both provide street light. If you use this "splitter" - the light from both will combine and your addressee wont be able to work from the device you want.
You stipulation a optical switch. The one from Monoprice is less than $7 and I own seen this same item at significant electronic stores and perhaps at Radio Shack.
i use a splitter and it works fine. i never enjoy to get out of my stool to use it. a switch would be so much harder.
