it is selective when playing dvds, as some dvds are played and the sound of the nation talking doesn't come out, but ambience music comes out. Is here any way i could around this? In other words the with the sole purpose problem is that i can't hear people discussion

Not sure of this one, but if your hi-fi player have a karaoke filter which suppresses the voice signals, just check to see if to be precise activated. You will own to turn off the karaoke function while playing dvds, if to be exact indeed the issue.
