Do I find full 6.1 gutter nouns from my spdif jack on my TV?

I'm trying to hook up my xbox360 and dvd player to my receiver. I own them connected to my hdtv thru hdmi cables. Could I consequently hook my receiver to the spdif out on the tv, instead of running optical cable from the xbox and dvd to the receiver? Is it equal either mode or is there signal loss?

Thanks!

Answers:    That will work fine as long as the TV translates DD contained by to DD out (and I cannot imagine why it would not.)

But I reflect on it will be 5.1 not 6.1.

Hook it up and look at your receiver. Mine usually tell me if the input is PCM (like from a CD player) or DD or DTS.
