Speaker location for surround nouns?

I was given a Koss system model #KS3102. It have 6 speakers (two front, the center, the subwoofer & two surround sound for the wager on I am assuming) I have everything hooked up & adjectives the speakers work but looking @ the diagram that came beside it, it looks like the speaker should be 10 foot apart. But my living room isn't big enough to hold the rear speakers 10 foot away from the couch. Am I missing something? Please explain to me where respectively speaker should be to get the best nouns and how far apart from each other they should be. Thanks for your oblige.

Answers:    Just place the front speakers at the front. Right, Left and Center. The sub at the front as well, essential the bottom of the display. Pick a spot at the back of your room, put the vanished rear and the right backside there. You should be fine that bearing. Use wall mounts if you have to.
