I am looking to buy an HDTV which I can connect to my computer. My concern is that the TV I am looking at does not have a DVI input but fairly component and analog inputs. I can't use analog inputs because my p/c dvd player can't play modern dvds with the newer protections. Would component (connects through the s-video cog of my video card) video support newer dvds or should I stick with DVI inputs?
Answers: HDMI/DVI are digital connections. Digital tv signal from your cable/sat/dvd/etc is sent to TV, and TV displays it.
Any other nouns, including COMPONENT are analog. Digital signal from cable/sat/dvd is converted to analog, sent to your tv which converts the analog signal to digital to be displayed.
Any additional conversion degrade the signal
Don't buy any TV without HDMI input (DVI is OK, as long as it is beside HDCP)
S-video supports up to 480p, which would degrade HD. It looks fine beside DVD, which is lower resolution than HD, but it doesn't look as good as the HD inputs where on earth there's a separate wire for respectively of three colors.
