Optical Cable Question?

I was newly wondering if it is bad to acquire a long digital optical cable, like does the element diminish when the length is too long? I was thinking of connecting two or three together near an extension cord, so that I can hook my laptop up to my receiver through the optical cable. Will probably be something like 10 feet or so total.

Answers:    The Optical spec is polite for 10m no more. 5 m for reliable transmission.

The talent of fibre will determine running. A junction will introduce the possibility of signal loss and distortion. 1 run of the right cable is best. No junction better.
Almost every type of cable I know of can go at lowest 10 feet lacking problems, but to know for sure, just try it and see what happen.
