What does blu sunbeam picture characteristic look approaching on a 720p plasma beside a 1080p chipset?

Such as panasonics viera plasma screens near a 1080p chipset

Answers:    How can it be a 720p plasma with a 1080p chipset? It's any a 1080p HDTV or a 720p/1080i.

That said, I'll assume you are talking give or take a few a 1080p plasma (if not, and it is a 720p plasma, any distinction from a normal DVD will be less).

Blu-Ray will other look good, but whether it looks significantly better than a typical DVD on a good upscaling DVD player (e.g. Oppo 981) depends on a) how big the eyeshade is, b) where you keep watch on from, c) whether the HDTV can handle 1080p/24 fps.

On screen smaller than 40" or so watched from outside the optimum distance (e.g. 5' on a 37" 1080p model) you won't see significant difference. And any difference will primarily be surrounded by the colour not sharpness.

Also note that 1080i and 1080p are essentially indistinguishable. On the other appendage 1080p / 24 fps -- the native format for movies on Blu-Ray and HD DVD -- if agreed by the HDTV and displayed at some multiple (96 or 120 fps) can give a detectable improvement (lower judder).

That adjectives said, in my untested statement (3rd para) I used the term "significant" -- a relative occupancy. Objective testing supports my statements above, but copious will tell you Blu-Ray or HD DVD make a contribution an "amazing" or "fantastic" picture. In reality any --- and both formats give essentially very same video and audio quality -- can be superior to even the best upscaled DVD, but they are a) not "darkness and day" different (unless under optimum conditions on a big screen), and b) not adjectives equally good (The best DVD can be as suitable or even slightly better than the worst HD disk).

But, judge for yourself. See the interconnect for some comparison pictures captured from FOTR contained by HD and normal DVD.
It will look fantastic!
