Who Do you infer will win the format time of war between HD-DVD and Blu Ray?
Answers: Blu-Ray will eventually win out, more studioes backing it, the discs themselves, blu-ray is outselling HD-DVD discs 2-3:1.
The one and only real protection HD-DVD has is Paramount, and solely because Microsoft and the HD-DVD group (Toshiba, and others) paid them big money for the exclusivity.
Blu-Ray have larger storage, and right now have more install base, it will win. As PS3s win cheaper, more install base, after sales of discs will really appropriate off.
Right presently, HD-DVD players are cheaper, but take a look through some of the ad that have HD-DVD movies and Blu-Ray movies for mart, the HD-DVD titles are either indistinguishable price now as the Blu-Ray or even better priced, that's another feather within the cap of Blu-Ray.

Sony backed blu-ray is better technology. I muse the war is deeply pointless. There will be no need for any disc within the next five years, everything will be available for download or even streamed contained by higher definition than we enjoy now by afterwards.

resourcefully the porno industry is going HD DVD and I read a while back that that would be the decide factor (the porn industry is a billion $ industry look what it did with VHS)
I assume the format war is pointless....both formats will stay around for a long time until something newer and better phases them out.
Do approaching me and go independent....get a combo player that plays both formats resembling the LG Superblu and get the best of both worlds.
As abundant have said already, it's not really somthing to be conserned roughly. There are big pushers on both sides. Taking an over view, any technology could win out.
Blue ray have many more companies bringing up the rear it, including disney and sony, where as hd-dvd is enormously limited, and to single a few headlining companies.
Blue sunbeam also has a high capacity for storage.
HOWEVER, as be said earlier, the pornography industry is not human being supported by blue ray. Companies such as Dinsey and Sony own most of the record technology for Blue ray, and enjoy decided not to pass porn producers access to their machines. The recording machines are far too expensive for lots producers to get their hand on, so they have arranged to stick with HD-DVD.
So boiling down to it. If you jus own to get your hand on that gorgeous 1080p picture, your best bet is to buy a DVD player that can process both formats. LG has a great one out (albeit expensive).
My passion however is that the battle is bygone, such as years back when the VHS and BETA where on earth duking it out. Technically speaking BETA was a better technology, but, because of industry approval, VHS won. Although nobody cares anymore because VHS is a limp technology with the emergance of the DVD. I belive this will come to pass with Blue streak vs. HD-DVD as well. One champion will be decided, but inside a few years a new technology will emerge disappearing them both in the dust.

Remember how briskly Laserdisc died out as a format once DVD came along. Format wars suck for us consumers! However, Blockbuster video did a survey and 70% of consumers opt for Blu-Ray so as far Blockbuster is concerned, Blu-ray will be stocked in their stores. As a subscriber to almost adjectives the a/v mags on the market, most of the public relations out there seem to target Blu-Ray. Equipment reviews also seem to favor Blu-Ray. However, if you're resembling me, you'll wait for a definitive title holder.
In all chance, neither wins and both survive. Dual format players would afterwards likely become the norm. Blu Ray have been outselling HD DVD, close to a 2:1 ratio this year (less of a cleft since they came out), but those numbers enjoy begun to shrink again after Paramount/Dreamworks went HD DVD exclusive.
Blu Ray still have more support, but it's not that big of a gap resembling it was. Universal and Paramount are the two big boys going HD DVD singular, and there's enough content nearby, plus whatever Warner/New Line releases to profess HD DVD. Rumors persist that WB may dance exclusive, but on which side remains to be seen.
Both should survive at this point.
