PCM audio?

I have my PS3 hooked up to an Onkyo TX-601 via optical. I own heard that if PCM if passed via optical it degrade to a 2.0 signal. Is this true? Should I chose the DD5.1 option for the loyal sub channel? Does PCM really lose the steadfast sub channel when hooked up via optical?

Answers:    I would suggest select the DD5.1 option for your setup. DD5.1 mechanism you want the Dolby Digital bitstream to pass to your beneficiary for surround sound decode. PCM stands for pulse code modulation and it's uncompressed digital sound contained by the stereo format. There's nothing wrong near it and it is truly good sounding audio but it is really for those who do not enjoy a full surround system set up and are only using two speakers. Hope this help!
If you don't use 6 speakers and select 5.1 from your PS3 - you'll missing a lot of nouns information dedicated for the backside speakers.

If you choose PCM - it is in effect a Digital Stereo signal. Depending on how you're Receiver/Speakers are setup, your sub should still work.

You'll procure a dedicated LFE conduit by Choosing the 5.1 option.

(But please... get hold of some rear speaker! --- how would you know if someone is sneaking up aft you?)
