I just bought a 5.1 surround nouns home theater system but I'm having trouble getting it to work. I hold digital cable connected from the set top box to my samsung HDTV using an hdmi cable. I then run an optical audio cable from the optical out on the tv to the optical in on the theater system but I am getting no nouns from the system. I can get tv nouns if I turn up the tv speakers but the sound is not going from the tv to the theater system. I thought the system or cable were defective but afterwards I swithed the tv source to my wii which is connected to the tv using component cables and the nouns came through the theater system only fine (through the optical cable). Is there a setting I inevitability to adjust on my cable box or something? Maybe run the optical cable from my cable box to the theater system? I'd rather not do that latter since I may run out of optical inputs on the theater system surrounded by the future.
Answers: I see you enjoy solved the first part of your ask, the optical cable should run from the cable box to the HT receiver. This should work fine.
The second cross-examine, what is the point of the optical out? Your TV has the capability to receive HDTV over the air, i.e. near no cable/sattelite box. If that were the satchel you would be getting sound on your TV, but it lone has 2 speakers. The optical out (a somewhat new portion on TV's these days) allows you to export the beautiful digital nouns from your TV reception to your HT receiver and hear it contained by all speakes. This will merely work if you are tuning to TV stations with your TV's built within tuner.
That is a really tough one. But, you have lots of company. There seem to be many others that are have that very problem. You may hold to some experimenting with your settings. BTW, if you cease up finding the problem yourself, please let us know also.
