My hd-DVD player will play regular DVD ,but not HD-DVD why?

Answers:    Samsung has frequent "HD" DVD player models, but just because they upconvert or enjoy an HDMI output does not make them TRUE HD DVD players.
Make sure your player have the HD DVD Logo.
If it does, check if you need a firmware upgrade from the factory owner.
Are you positive that you are using a Toshiba or Venturer HD DVD player, and not an upconverting/upscaling player?

If the brand is anything other than Toshiba, Venturer, or LG (because of the Dual player Super Blu) than you do not own an HD DVD player, only one that will give somebody a lift your DVD's and expand them or upconvert them to near HD standard. Those are ones that say HDTV compatible on the box.
It would comfort if you would give us the fashion and model of the DVD player.
