Answers:    Hi.Pioneer and Yamaha are both very well respectable manufacturers of electronics. The two you own in mind are similar within specifications and features. So it really comes down to sound power preferences.Because they are inexpensive Receivers there may not be much difference surrounded by the sound. The problem beside Receivers is the use of a single power supply to run the Tuner section, the Pre-Amp/Processor slot, and the Power Amplifiers section. The most central part of a Receiver is the Pre-Amp. booth It is the heart of the system. The needs of the Power Amplifiers booth degrades the Pre-Amp booth. The result is Receivers are not as smooth ,effortless, begin and full sounding as separate components. They are really a compromise. With so much circuitry jammed into them it's a wonder they work at all! You seize what you pay for. What is your chief priority ? Do you watch video more than listen to music ? If so the sound characteristic can be not as demanding .If you want better sound for music reproduction next you should listen to both Receivers to hear if one is better than the other. Some people speak that Yamaha has a "softer"nouns than other Receivers, which would be good for music. But ultimately you own to choose. I hope i have made it a bit graceful for you to decide.

EDIT...Hi. Have you hear them with music from a disc ? If for some reason you cant listen to them ,the Yamaha would probably enjoy the better sound. But i am one and only going on what other people enunciate. I understand Receivers but i do not own one myself.
both powerfully respected makes-but personally i would step for the yamaha. they have be specialists in this feild for various years and produce some top gear (i own neither-my own receiver is a denon near a marantz sr 4400 as a spare). but having said this pioneer are no push-overs surrounded by the world of home-cinema neither so compare prices/specs etc.
