FIrst home theater beneficiary, HDMI question?
Answers: That's a lot of question. HDMI carries both video and audio. The blu-ray player will not degrade going through the heir, because if you have the settings right, the Blu-ray will output at 1080p and won't be up-converted, only switched. The problem next to some pass through receivers is that they will singular pass through the video and you will have to connect the audio via optical cable. (Toslink)
My suggestion for beneficiary is Onkyo 706 or 606. 706 has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 out. 606 has 2 HDMI inputs / 1 out. It's all set for the present and future speeds of HDMI. Full TrueHD sound!

I significantly suggest using optical cables for the audio...it sounds amazing.
For my setup I run HDMI for the video and optical for the audio. monoprice.com makes cable and at an amazing price so get them from there if you obligation to buy.
