How suitable picture level are upscaled DVDs compared to blu-ray movies?
Answers: Yes there is a difference but how big depends on your insinuation. If you had a great DVD player before and connected progressively near component then you were already getting a exceedingly good picture (much better than upconverted standard def TV signals). If however you are used to DVD connected with s-video or composite video(Yellow video cable) afterwards you may be amazed how much better upconverted DVD can look. Not all upconverting is the same though. If you spend $3500 on a DVDO scaler later an upconverted DVD will look almost as good a Blu-Ray. If however you are using the built in scaler contained by the DVD player or Blu-Ray machine the difference will be greater between DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Bare in mind that in that is a difference in the audio as well if connected to a newer heir.
Your TV will automatically up-convert standard def video to it's internal 1080 resolution.
A bluray player will also up-convert standard def DVD's.
But there is a huge difference in picture point between up-converted and true HD. Just look at a HD network channel on your tube - then change to the standard def passageway. You should see the difference there.
Get the BluRay player and consider a PS3 as it offers one of the better video presentation for the price.
(And I am not a fan of Sony - but the PS3 is one of the better players.)
