1) look at your bill - you are probably paying a fee for LPN (local number portablity)
2) if you are paying a tax for LPN then ask AT&T why you can't port your local number if you are paying the charge
If they still disagree I would recommend changing to VOIP and keeping your number.
while contained by the olden days before number portability this be true, if you move to a location served by a diffrent central department, then you have to change your phone number, but if you are moving inwardly the same nouns code then they should port your dash to your new location... you any were speaking to the wrong human being, or they are not following the number portability laws... nickname back and ask to speak to a supervisor if they deny your competence to port your number... write down everyones name, the time you spoke to them, and the number you dialed to conquer them... if this dosent work, contact your local PSC/PUC and file a complaint (if you do not attempt to resolve the issue beside the carrier back filing the complaint, your complaint will be rejected... so contribute it one last try beforehand filing the complaint.,.. and provide the info from the telephone - name, etc...)
