Why is VoIP cheaper than regular phones?

Answers:    VoIP doesn't have anywhere close as much infrastructure to maintain. They run their information center and support staff but don't have lines to everyone's house or cell phone poles and stuff like that.
Lower Tariffs - its a "information service", not a voice service.
Also, right now, the element of VoIP is less than the characteristic of a circuit switched phone call.
