If you are next to BT you can sign up to "Choose to Refuse"
Choose to Refuse prevents unwanted or nuisance call getting through to you.
How does it work?
If you frequently receive unwanted or nuisance call from a particular number, you can block that number from getting through to you. This ensure your peace of mind and, if later on you vary your mind, you can lift the block and allow the tourist to contact you again.
You can also sign up to "Anonymous Call Reject" (BT).
Anonymous Call Reject allows you to bar call being made from withheld numbers.
How does it work?
If a tourist withholds their number, they will not be capable of get through to you. They will merely be able to gain through if they reveal their number. Anonymous Call Reject will not bar incoming call where it deliver the message 'unavailable'.
You can also register with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS).
This is free and once registered, inside 2-4 weeks, you should notice a dramatic drop within "sales" calls.
They also allow you to register for the "Mail Preference service", "Fax Preference Service" & in particular useful for someone who's child have died "Baby Mail Preference Service"
I have registered near TPS & MPS, I don't get anywhere effective as many sale calls as I used to.
Unfortunatly, some companies don't agreement with the TPS and some other companies attain your number by generating subjective numbers until they get a "live" number.
You will bring a lot smaller number calls though.

hi yes contact BT and tell them you want to opt out of these type of call i think they are call preferential telephone services after registration it can pilfer up to 28 days to activate after that time companies can and will be fined for unsolicited call to your number,
