I noticed a couple of years ago that some phone cards I used to give the name internationally stopped offering calls from Alaska or charged 5-10 c or more per minute for call originating from Alaska. I also notice that in olden times few years many companies enjoy moved from a policy of having state toll free numbers to numbers that cannot be accesed from Alaska. When you call them they right to be heard: the number cannot be reached from your calling nouns. Any substantial reason for this full mess? I would love to know why this happened over former times few years especially and if there are still ways for me to still ring up cheap internationally from Alaska. The country Id be calling would be Romania.
Answers: i havent been to alaska for over 10 years, but when i be there the first point that i noticed be the added fee on the calling card for call made from alaska, the second thing i notice was the rearrangement in the phone call... i do not know if this is still the same presently.. but the delay be caused by the reality that alaska is connected to the rest of the US phone system VIA satellite, unlike the rest of the country which use copper and fiber cables to connect one location to the subsequent (even many international call are made VIA cables sunk lower than the ocean)
the cost of this satellite system is expensive to maintain....
