In insinuation to PBX phone systems, what exactly is a node?

I am trying to figure out the phone system at work and inevitability some help.

Answers:    A node is a segment of the PBX. In larger PBX's the system is broken down into smaller groups, nodes or loops (the term depends on the manufacturer). These nodes handle some of the smaller, more adjectives computing functions and then report that information spinal column to the main CPU. This does not slow down the key CPU with every single request made by a cellular phone.
A node is any phone on the system.
