Landline ringing tone?

since i have had talk talk as my phone provider my ring tone on my land line is just one continuous ring, which in turn affects my fax machine, i have reported the fault, had anyone else had this problem it sends me mad thanks
Answer: Have you plugged in an alternative phone, eg. a friends, to see if the problem recurrs? Check that the total no. of phone equipment on your line doesn't have a REN total more than 4. Eg. does it still happen with just 1 phone plugged in when all other equipment is removed?

If it does, hound the fault reporting service to get it cleared. Mercury telecoms, when they first stated, used to give an American dial tone - single flat tone, not the interrupted tone that we get in the UK. Their phone exchanges came from a north American supplier and the settings had to be reset.

As I believe Talk Talk just buy BT services at wholesale rates and resell them, it should lie as a fault within the BT telephone network, if your home equipment and network is shown not to be at fault. Your contract is with talk talk, so they have the responsibility of ensuring your service is provided to your satisfaction.

Hound the fault reporting line if they don't clear it, and threaten to withold payment whilst you're not getting full appropriate service. Say you can't hear the ringing tone or something, meaning you're missing calls etc.

Good luck! Rob
I don't have talk talk, but I had that happen once (the one long continuous ring) but I don't remember why. It only happened once.

Try the following to troubleshoot the equipment:

Turn off or unplug the fax machine and all but one phone.
Call the house from your cell.

If it happens still, repeat with different phones being plugged in.

Finally try the fax machine on, only.

This will troubleshoot the equipment. For the signal, that is controlled by your provider.
