Answers: If it's of any use to you, the two pins of the six-pin socket which are of interest are numbers 2 and 5. The pins are numbered sequentially from one side to the other, so the ones you want are the "next one in" from respectively side.
With your 'phone on hook you should get a voltage reading across wires 2 and 5 of anything from 30-odd to 50. When a 'phone go off hook the voltage will drop to conceivably 6 or 8.
If you don't get an on-hook reading approaching 50 volts you stipulation to call surrounded by a technician. Private ones charge less than B.T.
BT enjoy to fix the line to your house, and the first socket to which this column is connected. After that, anyone can wire contained by sockets. If I remember correctly, you can put as many sockets within as you like, but if you plug surrounded by more than 4 phones you'll have problems. Therse days, you can buy a phone set that have one base phone, and up to 3 wireless handsets, and these are like mad more convenient to use
Well i am sure you can fix it your self. If you can follow the line within case it is over the floor you will be capable of see if it is the same nouns (extension). If the wire runs below your carpet or wood flooring than you can buy exotic cable extension pack and do a new electrics for the socket over floor.
It is quite simple if you still can't do it name me i wil help to for a moment or two charge.
Be really careful here, Bt will charge you for reconnecting extensions, The one that's working must be your prime socket! From there you will have need of to find out where the extensions step and where they are disconnected. You will be best past its sell-by date just starting again, if you know what your doing!! Most DIY stores provide phone extension kits.
bt solely work from the exchange to the main BT Distribution Point box contained by your house or at least to the master socket. IF they do any internal work they will charge the loam for it and do a quick and unproblematic job that doesnt look particulary tidy.
it would be cheaper to by some cable and do it yourself, but most electricians or cable engineers will know how to do it for you and could be lot cheaper than bt. try the www.yell.com and look for cable guys or electricians and a moment ago call around.
ring BT and explain to them that several phone sockets in your housre are gone down and you think that within could be a problem with the box where on earth the line comes into the house.
see what they enunciate and they may come out and do it for free.
