Home Phone-Crackling/hissing boom?

Whenever someone calls, it is almost muted. Is there anyway to fix this? Or would it basically be cheaper to get a trial telephone?

Answers:    unplug ur phone for 10 sec. plug it final in. if u still hear the resonance try to plug in a different phone. if u still enjoy a noise w/ the second phone contact ur service provider. most times they are competent to test the chain and detect any problems while u r on the phone. good luck.
First entry to do is borrow a friends / neighbours 'phone and plug this into your main socket, making sure in attendance are NO other sockets / 'phones connected. If the noise is still present bid your Service Provider and report the fault.

If the crack has gone, do not name your SP as you will incur a charge for a visit by an eng. The bad habit is within your home. Check for soaked or damage to sockets or electrics.
it could be your phone if it's a cordless. usually those noises are from a string problem though. hopefully you have string backer service. nickname your phone company so they can check your lines. we had that past and the squirrels had be chewing on the wires
