You dial any +1 or 00 1 then the 10-digit American number.
For example, 212-555-1212 (which you may also see written down as 1-212-555-1212) is dialled as +1 212 555 1212 from a mobile.
Or you could instead dial 00 1 212 555 1212, which would also work from a UK landline.
