When you bought your Sidekick iD you signed a two year contract, correct? That is the only intention you would have get it for under the suggested retail price.
Without signing a foreign two year contract, and finishing out both contracts, there is no path you would get a discount on your upgrade.
if you upgrade for the lx you any have to sign a one or two year extension for a discounted price. But if you dont wanna sign a modern contract then you own to buy it full price....
