Ring-tone vs Ring-back-what's the difference?

I have never tried to attain a ringtone. I have a entity on my new phone that I press a button and it brings me to this page that I can preview the songs I'd similar to. So I picked one and it tells me that I can win the ringtone for $1.99 or the ringback for $2.99 or both for $4.99-ridiculous price for a tune on your phone. So what is a ringback? Is there another mode to get these for smaller quantity (or free) and how do you do it? Please give me a step by step, I am really lost here. Thanks.

Answers:    A ring-tone is what you hear whaen your phone rings, a ringback tone is what the being calling you hears. instead of the usual phone ringing tone they hear it would be changed to music, or another tone of your choice, you can catch the ringtones for free, but not ringback's those are controlled by the cell phone company. the places for the ringtones are usually online in the form of freeware. merely google: ringtones and your bound to get some results
i gross my own ringtones using this free site
ventones
is a safe site!
Ringtone is what you hear. Ringback is what the company hears instead of the average ring.
They will hear please hold message then the music.

It is tough to get free ringtones for Verizon phones. I hold heard give or take a few asite call ventones but I enjoy not used myself.

I get hold of free ringtones from mobile9.com but I use on my Blackberry.
A ringtone is what you hear when someone calls. A ringback is what the human being calling you hears...
