How can you find an inexpensive topical cell phone lacking extending your contract?

I have a T-Mobile contract for another year or so, but my phone have started to show signs of dying. I want to switch to Verizon when my contract is up, so I don't want to extend my contract.

Is there any opening to get an inexpensive phone minus extending my T-Mobile contract?

Answers:    I had duplicate problem once. I just go on ebay, bought a simple cheap unlocked tri-band phone that uses a sim card. Then, just switch out the sim card into the different phone. That's how i did it anyway, maybe someone have a better idea...
The sense that we, as consumers, get phones cheap or free is because the cell phone provider - surrounded by your case, T-Mobile - take the burden of the cost in hopes of signing you to a contract beside them.

You will not be able to catch a new and inexpensive phone from T-Mobile short extending your contract.

However, if your current phone uses a SIM card, you can buy an unlocked phone on eBay and use it.
