I'm looking to buy a Sprint cell phone, if I buy from the store the activation fee is $36.00. My give somebody the third degree is, do I pay the activation charge when I buy the phone or will it appear on my first bill?

With Sprint, you can pay for the activation payment on the spot, but usually it will go through your phone bill.
Please check using Sprint! They will hit you with several 'miscelanious' fees, hit you for every penny they can, and do not stand at the back their representitives. They will lie and afterwards go rear on their word, and all they will do is influence sorry tough luck.
Judging by consumer reports, if you want good service, try Alltel or Verizon.
