What does it miserable when your phone is locked/unlocked?

What is a locked phone? and what is an unlocked phone?

Answers:    there are several different locks available on your cell phone.
1 - keypad lock. way the buttons on your phone cant be pushed, to prevent misdialling..
2 - brand lock (this is the answer you're probably looking for) sometimes when you buy a phone from a service provider, the service provider will lock the phone, meaning you can single use that phone with that company. an unlocked phone can be used near any company
3 - phone lock. requires a code set by the user of the phone. when a phone is locked using a lock code, no other sim card can be used with that phone unless the correct code is enter. if a wrong code is entered too copious times, a PUK code will be requested, and if that is enter wrong too many times, you will fry your sim card.
4 - in attendance is also a sim lock, but that has to do near the sim card more than the phone

hope that helps

contained by response to your add-on detail... yes that's exactly it. when you buy a phone, speak from Tmobile, they lock it so u can only use it next to tmobile. but if you buy a phone from the maker, similar to Sony Ericsson, then they are unlocked.
i'm assuming when its locked you own to press certain buttons to be capable of text or appointment and unlocked you don't have to press those buttons to do those things
