Are the topical ipod nano supposed to come next to cds?

Ok well i get a new 4gb ipod nano for Christmas and i be wondering if it's supposed to come with a cd because i didn't bring one and ive been trying adjectives day to put songs from itunes on it but its out of order!
Please i need assistance!
