Answers: Those guitar packages are well brought-up for starting guitar players since they do come with everything you entail. They are not necessarily a great guitar though. My first electric guitar was from a roll. Fender strat (mexican made) and fender amp. It was honest for me but the guitar is not the best quality. The type of guitar you should gain will also depend greatly on the style of music you are into. If you want to play blues type music, then win a strat or tele. if you are into rock get a gibson of some sort. Metal, you may want something close to an Ibanez. If you want an Ok guitar look into the $500 price range. Also shift to a guitar store and talk to the staff who will other be very knowledgable. Go to a small store though. Not a guitar center where on earth they usually aren't that great.
I'm not sure what sort of music your interested in playing, some guitars are better for different styles. Musician's Friend have a nice variety to choose from and some upright deals too.
