It depends. How tons partitions do you own on your computer. Do you only own A:(floppy), C:(Windows), and D:(CD-ROM)?If you have more partition that hold you music/ videos etc. you will be ok when you reinstall window. If your hard drive isn't completely inert. If you only enjoy one big partition your music may be lost.
You can try to find a program that will retrieve lost background from a crashed system. Unfortunately, I don't know any, because I haven't had to use em, because I barrier my drives to save my facts when Windows crashes.
