Answers: Assuming you mean it won't turn rotten:
Reset the iPod - Press and hold the menu and center buttons together until you see the black screen near the Apple symbol.
Once it's reset, go through the typical procedure of shutting it stale. This should work.
I'm always have problems with my iPod. Usually if I basically let it run out of power and consequently recharge it fully, it'll be fine.
