I think I know what you tight-fisted... try this:

-go to my computer>
-tools>
-folder option>
-view>
-and check the box next to 'show mysterious files & folders.
-Then connect your iPod Nano

After doing this your computer will recognise your iPod.

If you want to cope songs back onto your iPod (eg. if your computer have crashed or something) do the steps above, as well as these steps:

-when the iPod shows up surrounded by 'my computer'
-click open the sturdy drive and
-remove the music folder to your desktop
-then click open the music folder
-You will see folders titled 'F00', F01, etc.
-The music files are inside. Drag-n-drop the folder onto the desktop of the computer.

Hope this help!!
