Zune 2 (New Generation)?

Does it need to sync w/ the music or record just to play it??
Can it be used as a storage wallet??

I was planning to buy any this one or the new iPod Classic, I approved to get the zune instead. But I hear or read that you can't use the zune 2 for a storage file and that it requests sync-ing to play a file.

are these true? 'coz if they are, i'mma acquire an iPod classic instead.

P.S. i know that they can't play itunes already
