New iPod user: Trouble installing iTunes?

I recently purchased an 80GB iPod classic and I`ve be having trouble installing iTunes.

I don`t hold internet access at home so I have to stick to public computers; I downloaded the up-to-the-minute version of iTunes and tried to install it on my laptop to no avail. I seize an error message saying that iTunes cannot automatically update from the previous iPod software I hold on my computer. I realized I have an older performance of iPod software installed on my PC (though I have no perception where it come from), so I uninstalled it along with Quicktime and anything Apple-related, on the other hand I still get duplicate error message every time.

I am clueless as to what to do next and I`m getting a bit desperate since I can singular use my iPod as an external HD at the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answers:    try getting the Professional next to Service Pack 2 or later from windows(dot)com or google it for your computer to work beside ipod touch.make sure you enjoy the latest itunes.and register it.(it should sustain if you dont have window xp or later)

an alternaitve to itunes.(if you dont need the most up-to-date ituens for this.)
heres how:
get a program for it.comnpare pograms by going to
to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_iPod...

click the label of the one you want and google it and download it.

Since many hold free trails or are free, give some a question paper drive and decide that process.

Before you do that you may want to back up your iTunes library (if you already hold one):

Open My Computer, and open this sequence of folders:

Local Drive C:

Documents and Settings

(your username)

My Documents

My Music
You'll see a folder "iTunes". Right click over it once and select Copy.
Paste it to a place you'll remember (like your desktop or preferably an external easier said than done drive).
After the transfer is done, depart this folder and open the iTunes Music folder to product sure the files copied okay.

If your music wasn't in My Music and you don't know where on earth it is, do this:
Open iTunes, go to Edit and select Preferences.
Select the Advanced tab.
Under the General tab, you'll see "iTunes Music folder location".
That is your pathway to your iTunes folder.hope it helped
