Considering volts and amps, what is and how do you describe an amp?
Answers: the amp is the unit of electrical current,or flow.the definition is defined as -that current when passed through two infinitely long straight parallel wires of nominal cross section contained by a vacuum produces a force between the wires of 2 x 10 -7 newtons per metre.that's what i was tought at university 50 years ago and i still think its one of those useless bits of information that you've get to learn .a more judicious definition is when a potential difference of 1 volt is applied to a resistor of 1 ohm
a current of 1 amp is produced.
Electricity is measured in language of amperage, voltage, and wattage. Amperage (amps for short) is a measure of the AMOUNT of electricity used. Voltage (volts) measures the pressure, or FORCE, of electricity. The amps multiplied by the volts give you the wattage (watts), a measure of the WORK that electricity does per second.
