I hear bout unpluging things when not surrounded by use, what does this apply to?
Answers: typically things that have a transformer on them. a kerosene lamp doesn't draw power when it is off but a cell phone charger draws power even when it basically sitting there plugged within to the wall. a stereo typically draws power because it requires a transformer to power components inside it. same with a TV, a computer monitor while contained by standby still draws power because it is technically on its just waiting for the stir up signal from the computer.
anything that has a transformer to supply power ie: cell phone chargers, wall chargers for ipods etc.
Unplug things that enjoy a "standby" mode like TV sets, Hi-fis and any appliances beside remote controls, gadgets that run on low voltage and enjoy a transformer that plugs into the wall outlet.
Not lights and toasters, and definitely not the fridge or freezer!
