What format and software do I use to convert avi files so they can play on my dvd player European?

I have nero 8 trial interpretation but i am not having much nouns with it.

The one I am using presently is called convertxtodvd. You own to pay for it, but it is so effortless to use. Just drag and drop the file you want converted into a box and click 1 button. It also supports both PAL and NTSC.
