Sticking a surge protector formerly a power board?

I know that power surges can wreck your equipment. I did some research and found out that quality surge protector near 6+ outlets are around $80+ (if I get lucky). I am on a tight budget. Does sticking a characteristic surgecube (a surge protector with one outlet) back a powerboard provide protection. Is there another cheap route to protect my appliances?

Answers:    The very best path to go is to draw from a good UPS and the minimalistic item to do is buy one of those surge cubes. I have 3 or 4 thousand dollars worth of equipment so I hold them protected, just depends on how key your equipment is to you.

Note :You do not need a 80 dollar surge protector computer stores put on the market nice ones with equipment garauntees for underneath 30 dollars, a cheap UPS costs like 70 dollars so shop sagely.
