I once heard that at hand are devices (used mostly by the gov't) that can detect money from a distance. for example, they supposedly can drive by your house and even tell how much money is contained by it if they believe you're not reporting loads of cash to the IRS.
An elderly man i know think that his life money have be stolen; more than likely they are somewhere contained by his house and he just forgot where on earth he stashed the cash and very soon he can't find it. I figured if he could somehow hold his house searched beside one, it would determine whether or not the money was nearby or stolen. Can local police or anyone like that provide such a service? Or can these things be bought somewhere?

Weird, indeed. I am unaware of any such device next to the exception of a metal detector that could be used for coins and that's operates at a distance of inches. As far as broadsheet money, I don't see how any such device could exist. But, maybe I've missed something within my education.
